Matthew Dell

Guest Conductor

Conductor and educator Matthew B. Dell is the music director of the Rowan Youth Orchestra and an adjunct faculty member at Rowan University’s College of Performing Arts. Previously he served as music director of the Michigan Pops Orchestra and assistant conductor of the orchestras of the University of Michigan, Central Kentucky Youth Orchestra, Saybrook Orchestra of Yale, and Yale Glee Club. He has conducted the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, US Army Band, Berlin Sinfonietta, Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, University of Michigan Orchestras, Yale Symphony Orchestra, and NJ All State High School Honors Chamber Orchestra. He has served on the faculty of Turtle Bay Music School in New York City, where he conducts the annual concert of Handel’s Messiah and is the creator of the “What is Conducting?” workshop for children.

Dell received his Master of Music degree from the prestigious orchestral conducting program at the University of Michigan, where he studied with Kenneth Kiesler. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Yale University where he studied orchestral conducting with James Sinclair, choral conducting with Jeffrey Douma, and tuba with Toby Hanks. As a tenor he has performed choral works under Helmut Rilling, Sir Neville Mariner, Sir David Wilcox, Steven Reinecke, and Krystof Penderecki.
